The Server/Bartender is a dual-role position responsible for providing excellent customer service to restaurant guests by taking food and beverage orders, serving meals and drinks, and ensuring a pleasant dining experience. This role also involves preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at the bar, maintaining bar inventory, and adhering to all relevant liquor laws and regulations. The ideal candidate is energetic, customer-focused, and possesses a strong knowledge of food, wine, and spirits.

Key Responsibilities:

Server Duties:

  • Guest Service: Greet guests warmly and courteously upon arrival, escort them to tables, and present menus.

  • Order Taking: Accurately take food and beverage orders, offering suggestions and answering questions about menu items, ingredients, and daily specials. Upsell food and beverage items when appropriate.

  • Food and Beverage Delivery: Serve food and beverages promptly and efficiently to guests, ensuring proper presentation and temperature.

  • Table Maintenance: Clear and reset tables, ensure dining areas are clean and organized.

  • Payment Processing: Process guest payments accurately, handle cash, credit card transactions, and provide correct change.

  • Guest Satisfaction: Check on guests periodically to ensure satisfaction, address any concerns or issues promptly, and provide a positive dining experience.

  • Menu Knowledge: Maintain a thorough knowledge of all food and beverage menu items, including ingredients, allergens, preparation methods, and wine pairings.

  • Side Work: Complete opening, closing, and ongoing side work duties as assigned, such as polishing silverware, folding napkins, refilling condiments, and restocking service stations.

  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with kitchen staff, hosts, and other servers to ensure smooth service flow.

Bartender Duties:

  • Beverage Preparation: Prepare and serve a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including cocktails, beers, wines, and spirits, following established recipes and pouring guidelines.

  • Bar Service: Greet bar patrons, take drink orders, and serve beverages efficiently and courteously.

  • Drink Menu Knowledge: Possess extensive knowledge of drink recipes, liquor brands, beer selections, and wine lists. Be able to recommend drinks based on guest preferences.

  • Inventory & Stocking: Monitor and maintain bar inventory, including liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, and glassware. Restock the bar throughout the shift.

  • Cash Handling: Accurately handle cash and process credit card transactions at the bar, balancing the cash drawer at the end of the shift.

  • Cleanliness & Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and hygienic bar area at all times, including wiping down surfaces, washing glassware, and cleaning bar equipment.

  • Compliance: Adhere to all federal, state, and local liquor laws and regulations, including verifying legal drinking age and refusing service to intoxicated patrons.

  • Guest Interaction: Engage with guests in a friendly and professional manner, create a welcoming atmosphere, and build rapport.

  • Ordering & Receiving (Optional): May assist with ordering bar supplies and checking in deliveries.

General Responsibilities (for both roles):

  • Adhere to all restaurant policies and procedures, including health and safety regulations.

  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.

  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and training sessions.

  • Handle guest complaints or issues with professionalism and escalate to management when necessary.

  • Contribute to a positive and respectful work environment.

  • Assist with any other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous experience (1-2 years preferred) in a fast-paced restaurant or bar environment as a server, bartender, or both.

  • Age Requirement: Must be 18  years of age or older.

  • Skills:

    • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team.

    • Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure.

    • Basic math skills for handling payments and making change.

    • Knowledge of POS (Point of Sale) systems.

    • Ability to learn and memorize menu items and drink recipes quickly.

    • Responsible alcohol service certification (e.g., TIPS, ServSafe Alcohol) or willingness to obtain immediately upon hire.

  • Physical Demands:

    • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

    • Ability to lift and carry trays weighing up to 25-30 pounds.

    • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach.

    • Ability to work in a noisy and fast-paced environment.

  • Availability: Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
