Visiting a Career Fair isn’t the same as an interview, but it does give you one on one time with employers and recruiters.  It pays to be ready to answer the typical interview questions and gives you a chance to practice your skills.

5 Questions you should ask:

Don’t forget you need to ask Employers questions to. Here’s a few good ones.

1. How would you describe the company culture?
2. What are the biggest challenges of this job?
3. What do you like most about your job?
4. What skills do you look for in a candidate for this position?
5. What’s a typical career path for this position?

5 Questions you should be ready to answer:

Here are a few you should know a quick answer to. And they’ll be the first you’ll answer in an interview as well.

1. Tell me about yourself?
2. What kind of job are you looking for?
3. What are you currently doing?
4. Why are you looking for a change?
5. What are some of your strengths?

Questions to avoid:

There are some questions that you should tiptoe around, rather than ask. Instead of asking about pay (probably the most important thing you wish to know), ask about the type of training included:

What type of support do you offer your employees during onboarding?

You can also ask about benefits. After asking about the types of benefits that come with the role, maybe throw this out there:

What is the most popular benefit your company offers among current employees?

Don’t be generic.  If you aren’t sure about a company or didn’t research them, don’t ask basic questions like “What does X company do?” Try something like:

What sets your company apart from your competitors?

The beauty of this question is it makes you look smart, and positions the employer to brag about their benefits or company culture. Win, win.
